1)What is a fungating wound?<\/p>\n

Pathophysiology \u2013 tumor growing under the skin and break through the skin surface to create a wound. Appearance: cauliflower, ulcerating, skin nodules<\/p>\n

2)Assessment \u2013physical, psychological, psychosocial, spiritual<\/p>\n

( how is the impact on the patient from the fungating wound, can use case study )<\/p>\n

3)-Goals of care<\/p>\n

-Principles of wound care<\/p>\n

(good symptom control, promote comfort, improve quality of life)<\/p>\n

4)Management<\/p>\n

a)Pain- give analgesic 30 minutes prior to dressing<\/p>\n

-gentle cleaning and dressing change<\/p>\n

-soak dressing before removing<\/p>\n

b)Malodour- charcoal, topical metronidazole, green tea, shower<\/p>\n

c)Bleeding\u00a0 – a tumor increasing with damage to blood vessels<\/p>\n

-trauma in the removal of the dressing<\/p>\n

-adrenaline (Do you have this in your country?)<\/p>\n

-alginate dressing<\/p>\n

-soak dressing and gentle in removal dressing<\/p>\n

-if bleeding, direct pressure for 10 to 15 minutes till bleeding stop<\/p>\n

-cool saline in cleaning wound<\/p>\n

-change bed sheet or cloth to the dark color (reduce anxiety)<\/p>\n

f)Exudate<\/p>\n
