Dr. Rumana Dowla

Chairperson,

Bangladesh Palliative and Supportive Care Foundation

Dr. Rumana Dowla is a pioneer in Palliative Medicine in Bangladesh; First certified and trained Palliative Physician in Bangladesh. She is an expert in her field .

Her vision is to create a palliative care service which is culturally acceptable, appropriate, sustainable and affordable for the people of Bangladesh. She believes this vision can be realized by building a strong “Network” between existing health care providers and palliative trained personnel along with community participation through awareness and training of interdisciplinary groups of physicians, nurses, social workers, volunteers etc.. Public Health and Palliative Care can create an ideal integrated community based service for people with life limiting conditions.

In September, 2010 Dr. Rumana formed Bangladesh Palliative and Supportive Care Foundation along with the support of few friends and family members. It was a stepping stone towards many activities and initiatives.

During this journey Dr. Rumana has had several recognitions home and abroad-

2003-2004: Masters in Public Health, Community Medicine.

2005-2006: APHN Lien Foundation Fellowship Scholarship.

2006: First Hon. Palliative Care Physician and Trainee in Medical Oncology at NICRH, Bangladesh.

At the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, Dr. Rumana started the first Pain and Palliative Care Clinic in a Bangladesh Government Hospital along with Prof. Parveen Sultana.

2008: Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care, Flinders University, Australia.

2008: Commonwealth Scholarship for Masters in Palliative Medicine.

2009: Diploma in Palliative Medicine, Cardiff University, UK.

2009-2010: APHN Diploma in Palliative Medicine.

2011-2012: LDI Scholarship, Institute of Palliative Medicine, San Diego, California, USA.

2012-2013: International Pain Policy Fellowship Scholarship, Wisconsin, USA.

She is external faculty for MD Palliative Medicine program at BSMMU Hospital.

Her wish is to incorporate Art Therapy and Music Therapy for Healing in suffering.

 
Dr. Rubana Huq

Rubana Huq is the Chairman & Managing Director of Mohammadi Group and has been in the position for the last twenty-two years. The group is engaged in energy sector, ready made garment sector, media, real estate and software export. The group exports one and a half million pieces of ready-made garments every month of which women manufacture 75%. She overviews the import and the export and is directly involved with the supply chain and the final product. She heads Sharaf Memorial Trust and Annisul Huq Foundation, of which the first supports the education of the workers’ children through three schools that the trust has and the second awards scholarships to outstanding performance in journalism, special needs education, entrepreneurship, urban planning and environment. Rubana Huq has a PhD degree in English Literature from  Jadavpur University, India.  She is also a poet, having won the SAARC literary award in 2006 and was chosen as one of the 100 women chosen by BBC for the years 2013-2014, while she mentored a young Cambodian scavenger and helped her realize her dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

 
Kuhu Plamondon

Outstanding Designer and Artist who is taking the country forward. She has done M.F.A, Drawing & Painting from Institute of fine Arts, University of Dhaka

Kuhu Plamondon is founder member of Shako, a non profit organization consisting of 8 distinguished female artistes.
